THE COMPETITION

Inline with jerneh's corporate philosophy of being a model in corporate social responsibility, this year Jerneh Insurance has come up with an interesting contest- Green Malaysia Film Competition Powered by EduSmith and supported by AMP Radio Networks namely Hitz.fm, X-fresh.fm and My fm, this contest is targeting students between the ages of 16 and 21 and requires participants' creativity and skills to produce a 50-sec film on environment. As we strongly believe that preserving our environment is essential for the future, this contest is set as a medium to educate secondary school students and college students to appreciate the environment as well as to create environmental awareness among participants. Apart from that, this competition also helps to encourage students to utilise IT peripherals and the internet in a productive manner.

 

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

  • The competition is open to Malaysian students between the ages of 16 and 21
  • Students are encouraged to work in groups with guidance from parents/teachers/friends
  • Participants are required to produce a video on the environment for a duration of 50 seconds
  • Students may utilise either video cameras or mobile phones
  • The film can be shot anywhere and students may have their friends as models and narrators
  • Students have the option to record the narration/dialogue (if any) either in Bahasa Malaysia or English
  • 20 films will be shortlisted and will be given an additional 10 seconds allocation for the Jerneh and EDUSMITH branding which will be included by the EduSmith/Jerneh technical team at the end of each film
  • Students must fill in the entry form available in Jerneh website and attach the 50 seconds film file to the entry form before sending it

 

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Name the video as "FILM COMPETITION"
  • Compress or zip the video and attach the video to the entry form
  • The video can be in 3GP, WMV, MPG, MPEG, VOB, DVR, AVI, DIVX, and RM formats

 

JUDGING

  1. Only 20 shortlisted entries will be uploaded to the EDUSMITH / JERNEH website gallery for public viewing.

  2. All the 20 entries will be judged by a panel of JERNEH professionals and media experts.

     

    points will be awarded based on the following:

     

    EXAMPLE OF MAKING A SHORT FILM

    • STEP-1 Zidane has decided to use a mobile phone for the competition.
    • STEP-2 He has chosen "open burning" as the topic for the short film.
    • STEP-3 Zidane starts collecting information about open burning form the internet. He has decided to make the film using images collected from the internet. He has chosen his work station as the location for the film.
    • STEP-4 Zidane has prepared the following script.
      Shot-1: Image of the Globe has to be shown (5 seconds)
      Shot-2: Image of Green landscape to be shown (5 seconds)
      Shot-3: Image of open burning to be shown (5 seconds)
      Shot-4: Image of a desert to be shown (5 seconds)
      Shot-5: Image of skulls and skeletons to be shown (5 seconds)
      Shot-6: Zidane speaks: "Do you want this to happen to our earth? Do not change our green earth to a desert. Do your part for the environment…start recycling"(25 seconds)
    • STEP-5 Zidane begins filming by capturing the images he has saved in his PC (he follows the above script)
    • STEP-6 (OPTIONAL) Zidane skips this step as he decides not include any special effects.
    • STEP -7 Zidane transfers the clip from his mobile phone to his PC using USB cable.
    • STEP - 8 Zidane Clicks here to upload the film.

    Note: Winning entries will be presented to the Ministry of Environment during the award ceremony which will be held in the month of June 2008. EduSmith will encourage a TV station to air the winning entries on World Environment day or any suitable day.
